"Breaking the Cocoon" Group Exhibition | Opens 5 Nov in Harlem / by John Bradley

New York, September 12, 2015 - The Grady Alexis Gallery at El Taller Latino Americano is pleased to present Breaking the Cocoon, a contemporary group art show containing eight young artists. Their art works include paintings, installations and electronic media installations. The reception is free and open to the public on November 5, 2017 from 5pm-7pm. The works are on view from November 5 – 28, 2017. These extraordinary pieces reflect the theme of Breaking the Cocoon, demonstrating the artists’ effort to break cultural and social barriers through their work. All eight artists came from other countries to the United States, choosing to embrace American culture, yet keep their own mark. Collectively, they have a rich variety of means to express their understanding of how to “Break the Cocoon” and be reborn in their own art language. In today’s world, it is not just immigrants or artists who look for ways to break their cultural cocoons: many face this challenge in personal ways. This exhibition demonstrates the way these artists have overcome this challenge through the symbolic language, media and method of art."  - Curator Zhang Lan
